In the rules, it says:
It is not possible to: attack the Courtesan in close combat, kill her with the Fireball Wand, breathe fire at her with the Red Dragon, or attack the Courtesan with ranged combat (crossbow, archer, etc...).
There is no mist intervening, nor anti magic effects are taking place. -

As a side effect, I couldn't choose my own Courtisane neither (which was also in LOS)
