In any case the game, not long after starting became unplayable slow. This happened after I changed from confirming my move submission to one click to submit. I'm entirely sure if that's part of the issue or just coincidental, but certainly after that point everything from sending and receiving moves and updating the board became incredibly slow, and the tab itself was showing high CPU usage.
