maybe not possible for processing as the # of fish crates remaining may influence a players decision.

I think it could help speed up turn based games significantly.

I like the idea, thanks. I haven't really played enough real games to understand if there is strategy there. Let me see what the designer thinks.

The launch boats and hire captains phase could for sure be simul, with the caveat that everyone understands there is drawing occurring during those phases - which is fine, but some players get fussy about draw order even when its random.

Process and trade could be a simul phase

So could draw cards

Hrm... this is shaping up to be more difficult that I thought. I need to completely rework the game states for this. I don't think I will be able to support an option here. It's just going to switch. And it will probably break active games :(

yes it would require changes to the state machine, but I think you can keep both. you can always create states that are not going to be hit in a particular option.

before transition you check the game option and then transition to the corresponding state. I haven't seen the code but if you need some other ideas let me know.

side note: it's not ideal but I think its acceptable to break alpha games :)

I decided to partially implement this. The processing and trading phases are now simultaneous play (no option). The launch and hire phases I left alone. The main reason, honestly, was that it was too difficult. The way I have it coded now it would require a complete rewrite of half the state machine to keep track of everything that can or could happen in those phases. Processing/trading was much simpler, but I'm just not up for the rest. I would rather get the game moving out to more players than spend another couple weeks on this.

Happy to have someone else come in and change it if they feel strongly about it, but for now I'm considering this done.

Hersh jumped all over this and did a great job putting together an option for the Launch & Hire phase. I just ironed out a few corner cases and now it's live. Thanks Hersh!!
