This is a correct interaction, no bug
Fire Demon doesn't have a "react" attached to it's attack. CheersDrive also doesn't have a "react to attack" power
Pearl can only be converted out of turn if there is a React Power involved in either the attacker or defender side

If an attack doesn't include a React condition and you don't have a React Power of your own that you can use, then you don't get to convert Pearls out of turn. During your turn, you can convert Pearls to 1 Gold or any 2 standard essences at any time.
